Debby’s Current No-Fat Vegan Snacks

NAFheaderhome2In my latest attempts to tweak my vegan diet the Esselstyn way, I have been searching for some satisfying no-fat vegan snacks. Some of the snacks on this list are “oldies but goodies,” and some are new favorites. I hope this will give you some good ideas for a few “snacky-wackys” of your own.

Here is a list of my current favorite no-fat vegan snacks…

1. Ciao Bella’s “Blood Orange” Sorbet Bars

These yummy treats of juicy goodness are made with “naturally intense blood orange juice.” They’re fat free, vegan, and amazingly refreshing on a hot summer day. This delicious sorbet also comes in containers, but I like the bars. They make me feel like a kid again.

2. “Nature’s All” Freeze-Dried Organic Fruits

These freeze-dried organic fruits are flash frozen, and then placed in a vacuum chamber to lock in their nutritional benefits. I don’t know what that means, but I like it. I have been enjoying many of the fruit flavors, including the bananas and strawberries, mango and tropical fruits. However, Nature’s All comes in a wide variety of fruit flavors, and the mango and banana varieties are Fair Trade Certified. They have 6 new veggie flavors too, including pumpkin, peas and corn. These snacks are perfect for the office, kids’ lunchboxes, and dorm rooms.

3. Panda All Natural Soft Licorice

Before I became a vegan, I was a huge candy eater. I was so bad. I don’t eat much candy now, but I do miss it. Every now and then, I buy a box of Panda’s black licorice which is vegan and fat free, and made without preservatives, artificial colors or flavors.

4. Wasa Light Rye Crispbread

I’ve been eating these forever, and they never disappoint. Each crispbread is only 60 calories containing 3 grams of fiber and no fat grams. I love mine topped with St. Dalfour Golden Peach 100% Fruit Spread.

5. Ryvita Dark Rye Crispbread

Another fabulous high fiber, no fat crispbread which I also love topped with a 100% fruit spread.

6. St. Dalfour’s Golden Peach 100% Fruit Spread

I have been loving this 100% fruit spread for many years. Although it is available in many flavors, the Golden Peach is my absolute favorite. It is sweetened only with fruit juice concentrate, and contains no fat.

7. Good Neighbors’ Organic “No Fat” Simply Zero Hummus

This hummus seems almost too good to be true. Since it is made without tahini or oils, I have been using it as a dip and spread for just about everything. 2 tablespoons equal one serving, which is only 29 calories.

8. Snyder’s Of Hanover Fat Free Sourdough Hard Pretzels

These pretzels definitely qualify as an “oldie but goodie.” I can picture my college roommate, Helen, munching on these pretzels at her desk while listening to Billy Joel through her headphones. They’re 100 calories for one pretzel, but that’s all I need to satisfy my craving for something crunchy.

I hope you enjoyed hearing about some of my favorite no-fat vegan snacks, and that I gave you some good snacking ideas of your own. Of course, I’ll keep you advised of any other great snacks which happen to find their way into my vegan life.
