Former Blue Bloods’ co-star Jennifer Esposito appeared on this morning’s episode of the Today Show with Kathy Lee and Hoda to talk about her new bakery in the East Village called Jennifer’s Way, as well as her new upcoming reality show Playing With Fire.

Ms. Esposito spoke about her difficulties with celiac disease which was diagnosed in 2009. She appeared on the show with a luscious looking plate of gluten-free baked goods which included some vegan chocolate chip cookies. Her new bakery, which is located on East 10th Street between Avenue A and First Avenue in New York City’s East Village (right next door to the wonderful raw vegan eatery Quintessence), will sell organic, gluten-free, dairy-free, refined sugar-free, soy-free, peanut-free and allergy friendly baked goods. It sounds to me like it might be a great bakery for vegans, as well as for those who may be following a gluten-free diet. You can find some of Ms. Esposito’s gluten-free and vegan recipes on her website Jennifer’s Way.

Ms. Esposito also spoke about her new reality show Playing With Fire which airs on the E! Channel on March 17 at 10 pm. On the show, she will be cooking gluten-free for her celiac symptoms which Ms. Esposito stated were different for everyone. She seemed sincere in wanting to help people recognize and deal with this potential problem.

On another note (totally unrelated to veganism), this morning’s episode of the Today Show also featured a segment about Michael Pollack, the Vanderbilt University student who asked Billy Joel if he could accompany Billy onstage by playing piano while Billy sang New York State Of Mind. It just so happens that Michael is from my hometown on Long Island and graduated from the same high school class as my eldest son. We are all so proud of Michael whose talent is immeasurable. Kathy Lee and Hoda stated that Michael had “his moment” because he had the courage to ask for what he wanted. In case you are interested, here is a video clip of Michael playing piano with Billy Joel at Vanderbilt University…

  1. Oh wow, I hadn’t heard about this before but it’s exciting news to hear! I’m almost always around this area when I visit the city, so I’ll have to make a point to drop by next time.

  2. I stopped by this bakery last Friday and was very impressed by the vegan chocolate chip cookies. It’s definitely a great addition to the neighborhood for both vegans and non-vegans. This and Lula’s Sweet Apothecary are my favorite vegan sweet shops now. Your website is a great resource!
