Chipotle Serves New Item with Vegans in Mind: Sofritas!

Unknown-5Chipotle Mexican Grill, the popular and successful Mexican chain of fast casual restaurants, is offering their new vegan Sofritas throughout their California restaurants.  They tried it out in several San Francisco restaurants, then expanded to all Northern California locations. Now, Sofritas earned it’s way into Chipotles throughout the entire state. Can the whole country be next?  Let’s hope so! The popularity of the vegan Sofritas will hopefully send a powerful message to the food industry about the rising future of plant-based nutrition and growing interest in vegan food.  What is a Sofritas, you ask? It’s shredded tofu, braised with chipotle chilies, roasted poblanos and a blend of aromatic spices. Even better, the tofu is organic and non-GMO and comes from Oakland, California.   Steve Els, the founder and CEO of Chipotle, said, “We are changing the way people think about and eat fast food. It was conceived with vegetarians and vegans in mind, but it’s so delicious that we think it will have crossover appeal, as well.”  Thank you, Chipotle, for expressly creating a delicious vegan dish that everyone can enjoy. Maybe more will be on the horizon.  We hope other restaurants will take note and launch their own delectable vegan options, as well.









I can’t wait to get to my local Chipotle to try out a Sofritas!
